Competition Heats Up a Perfect Urban Summer

Not only does The Gilmore Collection Catering host parties like wedding receptions, corporate events, and birthday parties, we cater to many events open to the public as well! The B.O.B. held these two exciting events this summer with the weather being nothing but perfect.
On July 9th, active enthusiasts paired up with friends/ family/ spouses/ frenimies to race via foot and bike to several locations around Grand Rapids. Teams consisted of two females, two males, or a co-ed team. Camelbacks strapped to their backs, maps in hand, matching shirts, and even some with matching pigtails, participants had to quickly plan their routes in order to successfully reach all of their checkpoints. This “Amazing Race” Grand Rapids style brought hundreds of people downtown to participate and watch. Athletes were rewarded not only for being the fastest racers, but also for things like taking the time to help another team complete a challenge. After competing for hours in 85 degrees, getting lost a handful of times, the teams finished back at The B.O.B. and were ready to enjoy a beer and eat catered burgers. Great work Urban Adventure Racers!
A pool…in a parking lot…sound crazy? You better believe it! We created an urban paradise on July 16th and 17th. It was a two day family-friendly weekend filled with wakeboards, big air competition, free merchandise, and huge splashes occupied the parking lot outside at The B.O.B. We asked some of the young riders what they thought of the event and we received an enthusiastic answer: “Wake Wars is amazing. I can’t believe that people make pools in parking lots and wakeboard. Wakeboarding has got to be better than anything else.” Professional, intermediate, and amateur competitors came to compete for prize money by riding the rails and hitting the jumps. A rider stated that he “likes wakeboarding because its fun and there are no rules, you can make it whatever you want it to be.” Competitors landed tantrums, whirlybirds, and scarecrows, cooling down the crowd with a huge splash. Wake Wars also featured the BMX Kids! Wow!—always a crowd-catcher. Fans lounged in the party pool, visited the outdoor bars, ate hot dogs, danced to resident DJ’s on the VIP deck, played a game of bags, and enjoyed the show. Gnarly eh?
